僕は、乗ったことがありません。

でも、この電動アシスト自転車の値段が最近上昇しているようです。

その理由は何なんでしょうか？

普通の自転車より、かなり高い感覚はあります。

こういう物って、だんだん安くなって、一般的になる傾向が多いのですが、逆のようです。

なぜなんでしょうか？

“as a means of transportation”で「移動手段として」という表現をしています。

ここでの“means”は「意味」ということではなく「手段」という意味。

また、”as”は「~として」という表現です。

“fixtures”は「（家や部屋などの）固定された物、作り付けの備品、取り付けられた付属品」という意味があります。ここでは、単なる「備品」としています。

最近、いろんなものの不足が言われていますよね。

半導体とか鉄とか…。

それと同じ理由のようです。

“while avoiding”で「避けながら」と表現しています。

“avoid”は「避ける」という意味。

この文での注目は“not only ~ but also ~”の「~だけじゃなく~も」という、めっちゃ王道な構文です。

電動アシスト自転車のことを、ここではバッテリー駆動の自転車と言い換えています。

この電動アシスト自転車は、パンデミックの中で、売り上げが伸びてきたので、「成功した商品」として注目を浴びてきました。

でも、ここでの価格高騰で、将来に不安が出てきていると言っています。

高くなると、やっぱり買わなくなりますからね。

“have drawn a lot of attention”で「たくさんの注目を集めてきた」と表現しています。

“drawn”は”draw”「引く、引っ張る、引き寄せる」の過去分詞。

「たくさんの注目を引っ張ってきている」と現在完了形で表現しています。

“cast a shadow”で「影を落とす」と訳しています。

“cast”は「投げかける、投じる」という意味。

アルミニウムを作るには、電気が必要なんですよね。

だから、電力不足は、アルミニウム生産の減少に直結する。

“upheaval”は「大混乱、大変動、激変」という意味です。
