“What we reap is what we sow.” This concept is the main idea behind the Law of Karma – Whatever you do to others, either good or bad, will eventually come back to you.
あなたが他の人に良いことをしても、悪いことをしても、最終的には自分に戻ってくる(eventually come back to you)。
だから、いつも善い行いをするように心がける方がいいということ。
すべては自分が行ってきたことの結果なのです。
Last year, my idea was stolen by a colleague. We were planning to launch a new product. As a manager, I had to make a proposal to be presented to our executives.
Before that, I enthusiastically shared my ideas with another manager, whom I considered a friend. He thought my idea was great. But on the day of the presentation, I had a family emergency and couldn’t go to work.
The next day, I read in the announcement that my idea was approved, only it was not under my name but my “friends”. I felt so betrayed and hurt. I felt bitter.
For a while, I dug deeper into bitterness and found myself trapped in that dark hole. At my lowest point, I decided to stop digging and start planting. I planted a new seed of forgiveness, and it has been bearing fruit since.
By now, you must be expecting that my friend must have been suffering as I rejoiced. Well, he might have eaten (or stolen) the first fruit of my hard labor, but I have been enjoying the rest. Not to negate the Law of Karma, but why is there a need for anyone to suffer too just because I once did?
Do you believe in the Law of Karma? Is there any similar concept in your culture or religion?
Yes, I do. I believe in the Law of Karma. Almost Japanese people believe Buddhism. In Buddhism theory, there is a idea about the Law of Karma. So, many Japanese people are always doing good things to others for themselves.
I want to think it should be like that. If I am generous person, I could forgive, but I’m afraid I am not. If the wrong person is not suffered, I think I can not accept about it. If possible, I want to not think about it.
How do you think suffering can transform a person? What do you think is the purpose of it?
Suffering can make a person strong. The real suffering is difficult to endure. If we conquer it, I think we could be more stronger than ever. Also, if we can forgive, I think we could be more gentle.
I want to be like the person whom Einstein said. To be honest, I actually want to revenge in such situation. But if I could forgive, I would be strong as Einstein said. Rather it is easy for me to ignore someone. I think it is easier for me to consider something like there was nothing.
Hi Ko! I appreciate your ability to exchange views with me on any topic, and today was no exception. You clearly and honestly stated your position on the law of karma, and I thought your reasoning made a lot of sense. See you in our next meeting, have a good one!
