Seema Aziz is considered by many as one of the most successful business women in Pakistan. Not only is her high-end fashion and textile company one of the highest regarded in the country, its success has expanded outside Pakistan and into the UAE and UK where it has quickly grown into a multimillion-dollar-business.
However, as successful as her business pursuits are, it is Aziz’s philanthropic success that will most likely be her strongest and longest lasting legacy.
According to statistics, Pakistan has the second lowest literacy rate in the world. Living conditions are harsh and struggling parents often choose to send their children to work the fields as soon as they are able instead of investing in schooling.
As a result, 25 million children lack even the most basic education. To combat this, Aziz formed CARE (Cooperation for Advancement, Rehabilitation, and Education). Although it was a small start with only 250 students, it now has nearly 200,000 students.
By building and running its own schools, CARE faces operational challenges every day. Despite these, education is on the rise and CARE alumni are even going on to prestigious medical schools and Aziz is ushering in a whole new generation of informed, smart, and capable children.
In 2016, she was awarded Barclays UK’s Women of the Year Award for her contributions to society. With business on the rise and CARE aiming to increase their student count to 1 million, the future is looking bright indeed.
I think it is really great thing Seema Aziz can balance both her business and CARE.Even only succeeded in business is great thing, farther more she is managing CARE is really difficult thing I think. Especially, to take care about children needs a lot of efforts for her. In this point, it is really great for her to balance both of activities in the same time.
I don’t think the success skills for business always need for running a successful NPO. But I think it will be as reference for because the management for NPO is similar to the one of for business. I think it will be good for everyone to manage NPO with referring the core of business successful skills.
How was education changed throughout your country’s history?
I think Japan has been very enthusiastic for our education throughout our history. The literacy rate has been actually very high from the Samurai era. Regarding contents of education, there was the time we were taught Imperialism. But throughout our history, Japanese people have been considering the education of children are very important thing.
What do you think about the current education system in your country?
I think there is no especially problem in Japanese current education system. In Japan, “More relax education system” conducted about two decades ago. This system is evaluated today as failure. The current education system which has improved from “more relax education system” is more appropriate for children, I think.
I want to include basic subjects in first. Concretely, it means basic reading, writing and calculating. These are the basis of studying a lot of things. Then I also want to include English. This is a tool for communicating with various countries people. Finally, I want to teach them computers. For living in the current world, it is necessary to know about computers and Internet.
Achieving anything is never easy and requires a lot of sacrifices you have taken your first steps towards realizing your goals, well done! Keep working hard your efforts will be rewarded without question. Good morning Ko!
