Newly minted yokozuna Terunofuji spent a brief moment on the edge of the ring on Sunday at the Autumn Grand Sumo Tournament at Tokyo’s Ryogoku Kokugikan, but he quickly recovered to stay undefeated.
Terunofuji, in his first tournament since his promotion to yokozuna, withstood the early charge of Tamawashi, and used brute force to eventually usher the No. 4 maegashira (3-5) out of the ring to stay the tournament leader.
Meanwhile, Shodai (5-3) couldn’t stay square in front of No. 3 maegashira Kotonowaka (3-5), who worked himself into good position near the edge and threw the ozeki to the surface.
